Hampshire Hills will hold School Days Out
activities programs from 9 a.m.-4 p.m. on Thursday, Nov. 11 and Wednesday, Nov.
23. Students in kindergarten to grade six can participate in swimming, wall
climbing, sports and games on their day off. Before and after care programs are
available. The cost is $28 for members; $50 for nonmembers.
Hampshire Hills will offer a babysitting
course for boys and girls ages 11-15. This is a two-week, eight-hour course,
which teaches basic first aid instruction, age appropriate games, infant care,
safety techniques, accident prevention and tips for handling emergencies. The
class meets from 8 a.m.-12 p.m. on Saturday, Nov. 5 & 12. The cost is $40 for
members; $60 for non-members. Space is limited.
Seniors can sign up for a strength-training
program to learn about the key components of an effective strength-training
program. The program meets on Mondays and Wednesdays from 10:30-11:30 a.m. or
1:30-2:30 p.m. or on Tuesdays and Thursdays from 1-2 p.m. or 2-3 p.m. This
session will start on Nov. 1 and continue until Dec. 8. The program fee is $60
for 12 classes for members; $120 for non-members. Class size is limited to 5
participants; registration is required.
Hampshire Hills Sports and Fitness Club will
host a lecture on The Benefits of Healthy Fats with biochemist Madeline Flagg
from 7-9 p.m. on Wednesday, Nov. 9. Flagg will discuss the differences between
saturated, polyunsaturated and monounsaturated fats and different types of fats
like cod liver oil and coconut oil. Learn the truth about fats in order to make
informed decisions and stay healthy. Topics discussed will include the chemistry
of fats, the benefits of saturated fats, cholesterol profile, risk assessment,
cholesterol lowering drugs, the real villains for heart disease and the Ten
Commandments for avoiding heart disease. The cost for members is $5; $10 for
nonmembers. Registration is required.

Hampshire Hills climbing wall is open to the public from 6-8 p.m. on Sundays.
Over 30 feet high, the wall has three various climbing routes for beginners to
experienced climbers. No experience is necessary, but climbers must weigh at
least 65 lbs. for proper equipment fit. Registration is required by Wednesday
for a Sunday climb. Cost is $5 for members, $10 for nonmembers. Hampshire Hills

Hampshire Hills offers groups the opportunity
to hold a Lock-In at their facility. A Lock-In is an affordable, fully
supervised overnight experience filled with games and organized activities that
last an entire night at Hampshire Hills. The program includes innovative and fun
team-building games and self-esteem enhancing activities as well as wall
climbing, swimming, tennis, floor hockey, soccer, basketball and more. A pizza
dinner and bagel breakfast are included. Lock-Ins can be customized to an
individual groups needs. They accommodate all age groups and organizations and
can be scheduled throughout the year. Scout troops, school outings, church youth
groups, post-prom and post-graduation parties and fund raisers have all enjoyed
Hampshire Hills Lock-Ins in the past. Minimum group size is 40 participants.

Toadstool Events
The Toadstool Bookshop will host a "Lemoney Snickett
Perilous Party" from 3-4 p.m. on Wednesday, Dec. 28 for young readers. The event
will feature activities based on The Series of Unfortunate Events and
refreshments. Children are invited to sign up at the store for this free event.

READING & DISCUSSION GROUPS

There are two Homeschoolers book groups. The new
session for students grades 4-6 will begin on Monday, Jan. 5 and meet from
9:30-10:30 a.m. on alternate Mondays. A group for Teen Homeschoolers will meet
from 9:30-10:30 a.m., meeting alternate Mondays, beginning Jan. 12. Registration
is required for the homeschoolers groups.

The science fiction/fantasy book group for adults
and teens that meets at 7 p.m. on the 2nd & 4th Wednesday of each month. There
are no reading requirements; group members simply bring whatever they have been
reading. The group also occasionally hosts authors during regularly scheduled
