Back Upabout us

Milford Fife & Drum, based in Milford, N.H., portrays the  field music of a Revolutionary  War-era militia unit with authentic dress, as well as authentic 18th Century fife-and-drum music. Our members are from the local communities of Milford, N.H., Amherst, N.H., and New Boston, N.H., and we accept new members of any age, any gender, and from any locale.

We are a somewhat laid-back family and community oriented 18th-Century re-enactment group whose primary objective is to have fun with our music and help people in our local communities understand the music, dress, and lifestyle of the American Colonial militia field musician around the time of the American Revolution. We strive to be as historically accurate as possible in our dress and in our music, but we take a reasonable approach to authenticity based on the time and effort our members can devote to the group. While we try to be as accurate as we can, our primary goals are to enjoy each other, our music, and our neighbors. At our parades and other public performances, we welcome our non-musician family members to wear Colonial dress and march with us.

Cooperman Rope Tension Drum

Milford Fife & Drum members use Cooperman reproduction rope-tension drums that are based on authentic 18th Century drums, and play two-piece Healy fifes. We chose the Healy fifes over the more traditional and authentic one-piece fifes because the Healys offer a louder and clearer sound over their one-piece counterparts, and help us offer the best-sounding music we can.

Typically we perform at the Independence Day parade in New Boston, N.H., at the Labor Day parade in Milford, N.H., and at the Hollis Old Home Days parade in Hollis, N.H.

We practice weekly on Sunday evenings from 7 to 8 p.m. at the Milford V.F.W. hall. We offer fife and drum instruction to prospective members. If you are interested in joining Milford Fife & Drum, or would simply like to check the group out, please contact us and we will arrange to have you visit us at one of our practices.
